Coccydynia
Coccydynia
Assessment
A client presented with severe neck pain, which had been affecting her quality of life. During the evaluation, I discovered that the primary source of her discomfort was not her neck but her tailbone, which exhibited significant restrictions and tension. These restrictions were contributing to her neck pain and overall discomfort.
Treatment
Using Counterstrain therapy, I focused on releasing the restrictions in her tailbone, or coccyx. Counterstrain is a gentle, hands-on technique that alleviates tension and restores normal function by positioning the body in ways that release muscle and connective tissue tension. By addressing the root cause at the tailbone, the therapy facilitated a cascade of relief throughout her spine.
Results
Remarkably, after just one session, the client reported a significant improvement in her neck pain. Despite the minimal direct treatment to her neck, the release of restrictions in her tailbone led to a profound reduction in her symptoms. This case underscores the importance of considering the tailbone’s role in spinal health and its impact on overall well-being.
How Counterstrain Helps with Coccydynia:
Spinal Alignment: By releasing restrictions at the tailbone, Counterstrain helps alleviate tension throughout the spine, reducing pain and improving posture.
Nervous System Relief: The tailbone is connected to multiple nerves that can influence various parts of the body. Counterstrain can reduce nerve tension and alleviate associated symptoms like headaches and digestive issues.
Holistic Healing: By addressing the root cause of tailbone pain, Counterstrain offers a holistic approach to recovery, improving not just the tailbone pain but also associated conditions that may seem unrelated.
If you or someone you know is struggling with tailbone pain, consider exploring Counterstrain therapy as a holistic, research-backed approach to recovery.
